DXc is absolutely the best investment I’ve ever made in my business.

Tell us a bit about you! Who are you, and what do you do?

I’m Connie Holen, a designer specializing in creating Squarespace websites. I mostly work with clients with brick & mortar health and fitness businesses.

Where were you before DXc?

I didn’t have a real focus in my business, was a generalist for sure and struggled with finding clients that wanted to hire ME instead of just needed someone in their budget.

Why did you sign up for DXc?

I wanted to bring more value to my clients by being able to offering strategic recommendations. I also wanted to position myself better and find a niche.

What are the people in DXc like (including instructor + fellow students)?

Wonderful! DXc is such a supportive community of super-talented people.

Instructors and fellow students alike are so generous with their knowledge, experience and encouragement.

The accountability and honest feedback on things has been a big part of my progress in the last 6 months.

What were some of your breakthroughs?

Positioning myself with an expertise in a niche has been a big breakthrough for me.

My services, copy and marketing all has a real focus now and I don’t feel so overwhelmed by all the thing I should be doing.

I’ve also made relationships with other designers in the program that’s led to collaborations, introductions and referrals that have really helped my business grow.

What are your takeaways from working with Marie (and Michelle)?

I created my first strategy document for a client and the project turned out really well. I also gained industry specific (for my new target market) insight and technical advice that would have taken me years to piece together myself.

After each call with Marie or Michelle I felt totally confident in my next steps and often had a new opportunity open up for me.

What was your favorite part of the DXc experience?

The one on one sessions gave my business the biggest boost for sure. They gave me the confidence to take some big actions and opportunities seemed to open up after each session.

The business audit was also really amazing. Having a lens to look at my own business and assess things was really powerful. It let me to (finally) stop tweaking the things I really was doing pretty well and move on to the big areas that actually needed attention. It’s something that’s become a part of my regular business strategy.

How have you applied the strategies you’ve learned?

I’m comfortable giving clients advice on things other than design now. I’m also feeling really good about my own client processes… how to work with clients that are a good fit, how to set-up my own systems and how to position myself.

What would you say if you were recommending DXc to a friend?

DXc is absolutely the best investment I’ve ever made in my business.

I can’t believe all the changes I’ve made in the last 6 months and how right they all feel right now.

How do you feel right now?

Really, really positive about where I’m heading this year. I’ve got next month full of dream clients in the specific industry I’m aiming for and I feel like I’m really settling into the specific area and services I want to offer.

What’s next for you?

My goal this year is to continue to position myself as the go-to designer for yoga & fitness studios who need an easy-to-manage website with integrated online scheduling. Building a portfolio I’m continually proud of and gaining a solid reputation are high on my goal list right now.
